Installation
To ensure trouble free installation:
- Always use the correct grade of Zinc.
- Use clips instead of nails to secure Zinc in position and allow for natural expansion.
- Allow Zinc to move freely.
- Use "killed spirits" as a soldering flux.
- Use 50/50 tin/lead solder.
- Use the soldering iron slightly cooler than for galvanised iron.
- Wash off residue flux with clean water after soldering.
- Don't solder copper to Zinc.
- Dry store Zinc until use.
- Don't use copper or ungalvanised iron in contact with Zinc or allow rainwater from these metals to flow onto zinc.
- Don't use in acid conditions.
- Don't leave multiple sheets in weather.
- Don't leave coils of Zinc in weather.
Soft Zinc is designed for flashing use only and is not to be used for downpipes, eaves and box gutters. Special grades of Zinc are available for a variety of purposes.
